Hey everyone!
That is it, after Saturday November 12, 2011 the Somewhere in Time colorguard season was done for. And with that I'm incredibly sad because of the many memories I've made here. I may only be a freshman and have many shows to come but it's still depressing to know that I won't see any of my senior friends again. Okay, so there were moments where I wasn't exactly happy with how they treated me, but in the end we're all a huge guard family. With plenty of tears and plenty of cheers we all got through this season too fast. It feels as if it were only yesterday that we were learning the crazy dance routine our dance instructor Dustin made up in May. Suddenly its November and I'm sad that we won't be doing that dance again or hearing that classic Somewhere in Time music unless it's on DVD or our ipod. perhaps there is a way to post it here! I'll have to find that out. But anyways just a gist of how this season went.
Alright, it all started with a crazy dance we learned in May during tryouts and I was devastated by how horribly uncoordinated I was.
Next came the parade season, where we learned the "parade routine" and went to 3 parades. Each long and extremely hot. Along with the fact that we were forced to wear our t-shirts tucked in our khaki shorts. We also had to have our hair in a big poof in the front and a messy bun which I finally learned by pretty much the very end of the season.
Finally band camp came. Two of the longest weeks in my entire life and two of the hottest too. I learned that week go bring a water bottle cooler instead of usual plastic, otherwise the water becomes lukewarm and really gross. By the end of band cap we had finished most of part 1 and part 2, so on the last day all of our family came to see what we had so far.
After that came football games. Where we wore basically the same thing as we did parades except for black shorts. Hair was sadly the same too.
Then, my favorite of them all, performances finally came! Our first was a Concord Invitational where we always get first every single year. It's really no surprise to any of us about this performance, although it's kind of mean to believe that we'll always get first because you never know. After that was another performance where we sadly got 2nd to Homestead whom later got 1st at State Finals. BOA came too fast and we got 3rd place at regional. And then, BOA grand nationals was the next weekend, (a.k.a this weekend) and we rocked both prelims and semi-finals. But in the end we got 21 out of 33. None of us knows why that happened. Perhaps it's because of the Texas marching bands that come only a few years at a time. After that it was over, we didn't make finals and so everyone was crying. We had to watch finals of course because we already paid for our tickets. Then, I didn't ride the bus home, I had a separate hotel room with my family.
Now, it's over and there's no telling what next year's show will entail. I can never really predict what shows we will do, especially in Winterguard when last year we were a ship and a carousel. I just hope that I'll always remember this season. It's been one of the best! But now I can finally relax at home! For a month at least before winter guard starts. Let's hope that next year we'll make it to finals and be one of the top bands in America. We are LC after all, the Tribe of Pride.
Sincerely,
Tinkerbell
